Writing Autobiography
I have been a writer since I learned how to write in elementary school. When I was younger, I didn't really like writing that much, but I learned to like writing a lot more in fifth and sixth grade. My teachers in these grades really helped me to improve my writing. One of my favorite writing assignment that I did in fifth grade was the state report. It was a research project on one of the fifty states in the US. The state that I did my report on was Utah. I really worked hard on this project because I really wanted to get an A. This project helped me not only with my writing skills, but my research skills as well and I did end up getting an A on it. In sixth grade, my English teacher really pushed me and the other students to be able to be better writers. Almost every week there would be a new writing assignment to do and we only had a week to do them. He also threatened to take off five points for every grammatical error in the paper, teaching us to always revise our work and always turn in our best work.
In writing, there are things that are easy to do and things that are extremely hard to do. For me, the hardest part of writing is coming up with an idea. For example, this year, in seventh grade, my English teacher told my class that we are writing a persuasive business letter to any company we want to to suggest a new product or fix a product, it took me forever to figure out what company I wanted to write too. The main problem for me was I would find a company I would want to write to, but then I didn't have an idea for a product to come up with or fix. After many hours of thinking, I finally came up with an idea of writing to the company UGGS.
This year, not only do I write in my English class, I am also a part of my school newspaper and I write in that class too. Journalism has really helped me in many ways. First, it gives me double the practice for writing. It also has taught me to how to write a newspaper article with a lead and how to write a newspaper article in the inverted pyramid format. Also, I have learned how to conduct a interview by knowing what type of questions to ask, like do not ask yes or no questions. Lastly, journalism has also helped me with my independence because it is a student run class and the articles we write are our own ideas.
